Is the Pax Era Pro Worth it?

Pax Labs has been rather dormant lately and we’ve only seen the release of the Pax Era a couple of years ago. They’ve now dropped the Pax Era Pro Vape Pen which offers some promising upgrades and a refresh to an otherwise solid device.

They’ve now implemented PAXSmart pods, which is the companies’ appropriate response to the tainted oil vape cartridges that resulted in deaths across America. Other new features like USB-C charging, PodID, vibration feedback, and others have been included on the device.

Without further ado, let’s go on with our Pax Era Pro review to see if it’s worth the steep price tag or not!

How does the Pax Era Pro work?

Oil vapes are hilariously easy to use, with the Pax Era Pro taking this to a whole new level. Slide the pod in, and the device will automatically tailor the temperature to the best one. You can also just use the normal temperature control option if you want that too. All you have to do to use the device is drop a pod in and inhale. Super simple! 

To change between the four preset temperatures, all you’ll have to do is press the pod in and out of the battery – The four LED pedals light up individually to display what pre-set you’re on

Pax Era Pro Pod System 

If you haven’t got the idea yet, the Era Pro is basically a 510 thread vape battery that uses its own specially made pods instead of 510-thread cartridges.

• In Canada, you’ll be able to find pods mainly at the OCS website, along with the major dispensary retailers like Canna Cabana.

The connection on your pods will also recognize your last set temperature, so that swapping back and forth between pods will always go back to your preferred temperature. The pods can be a bit pricy, but again, it’s nice to know that they are well tested and authorized by PAX.

Pax Era Smartphone App 

• If you pair your Era Pro with your phone by shaking your device back and forth with your app open, you’ll be able to track cool details like dosage controlling, temperature control, as well as a device lock.

The four pre-sets will give you a range of 520°F to 790°F, and when you app is connected, you’ll get a recommended temperature to use your pod at, which is a nice feature for beginners.

Unfortunately, Apple has banned all cannabis vaping related apps, but there’s still a workaround via the Pax Era Pro Web Application. 

How long does the Pax Era Pro battery last?

You’ll be able to get between 150-300 hits which will last you the majority of a 0.5g pod from a full charge thanks to the 230mAh proprietary battery. A full charge will take around 45 minutes from the USB-C port on the bottom on the Era Pro.

Draw Activated Heating  

The Pax Era Pro, much like the Pax Era, uses on-demand draw. It’ll detect when you inhale and automatically vaporize the oil for you. No buttons, no steps, easy as can be. You can take tiny hits or massive rips, all up to you in just 2-4 seconds of heating. 

• The Pax Era Pro can only vaporizer Pax Era-compatible pods. No dry herb, no wax, just oil. 

If you like the idea of draw activation, you might be also be interested in the Tronian Pitron, a 510 battery with no buttons, just like the Era Pro. If your battery is charged but your pod isn’t hitting, you might just need to flip your pod to get it working, that seems to have worked for me a few times.

How’s the Pax Era Pro Vapor Quality?

The Era Pro’s vapor quality comes down a lot to your temperature selection and the quality of the oil in the pod itself. With all that in mind, most of the time it will be tasty and comfortable! Choose between big clouds or great taste, all depending on your set temperature. 

Compared to the original Pax Era, you’ll have improved airflow thanks to the bigger air ports which is a nice touch. 

One nice thing is that Pax verifies and tests all of their pods for sale to be authentic and high-quality, unlike the over saturated cartridge market. There are a wide range of strains and concentrations to try out, and they will all perform very differently.

Tips and Tricks

1. My favorite have been CBD-based pods so that if I take a huge rip, I know I won’t be sidelined for the next little while. 
2. I also like the detailed information you can gather on all of their pods including their flavor and included terpenes, as well as knowing what their desired effect will be after consumption.

Is the Pax Era Pro portable?

This thing is tiny. Seriously, you’ll probably lose it in your pocket. Like the size of a couple of sticks of gum and about as heavy too, it’s super small. Hide it in your hand no problem, take a hit, and be done in seconds.

The smell isn’t like burnt weed either, but rather like a nice fresh hit from a Wax Vaporizer.

The Pax Era Pro is about 3” tall and ¾’’ wide. Very small indeed! As well, because the standard 0.5g bowl of a pod is hidden in the body of the vape, most people will just assume that you’re hitting some nicotine if you decide to toke in public. 

PAX Labs Manufacture Reputation

Pax labs is known for their top notch service, reliability, and reputation overall. The Pax Era Pro is in fact the first UL-Certified cannabis-related battery. Basically, it means it’s safe and is certified that it’s safe to use – The only other UL certified vaporizer on the market currently is the Mighty+!

You get a 1 year warranty which is alright, and we honestly expect this thing to last for a lot longer considering how simple it is, and how reliable Pax products in the past have been. There’s even haptic (vibration) feedback when you reach your desired dosage now too, which is really cool considering how small the device is.

It looks and feels great in the hand, and while it is quite expensive, you really get the best quality vaping oils on the market. Some even consider their new dry herb device to have the best vapor quality which you can learn more about in our Pax Plus Review.

Who’s the Pax Era Pro Best For?

The Pax Era Pro is for the person who really loves to vape oil but wants something very simple to use. Swap in a pod and the device will automatically set a temperature. If you’re concerned about tainted pods and worried about your personal health, then absolutely its’ the best unit to buy.

If you’re on a budget and want a device which has pods or refillable cartridges you can fill yourself, then this is definitely not the device for you.

A draw-activated Tronian Pitron is a good alternative

Final Thoughts

The Pax Era Pro vs Pax Era debate has already started and we think the Era Pro is worth it simply because of the PodID system which gives full transparency and pod safety reports to ensure your health. 

It is very expensive considering the price of other oil vapes and something to be considered. We still think it’s worth it and feel like it’ll last a long time. USB-C future proofing is well enjoyed, and the other features like vibration feedback and the improved airflow is nice to see.

If you want a safe device with top notch performance, future-proofing, PodID, and other good features, then it’s definitely the device for you. It pairs with the Bluetooth app to show you all this detailed data.

If you’re not completely sold on the idea, you should definitely consider the G Pen Micro + as an alternative. It’s a wax pen that is also compatible with 510 cartridges meaning you can switch back and forth between the ceramic atomizer and your carts depending on what you want to hit. It’s been a fan favorite since we brought it on, and performs just as well as the Era Pro.
