Vaporizer Showdown – Should you buy the Utillian 722 or Crafty+?
As two of the best overall dry herb vaporizers on the market, many people have been asking us about how the Utillian 722 compares to the well-known Storz & Bickel Crafty+ 2021 USB-C model. They check a lot of boxes in terms of quality, portability, and convection heating ovens – So what makes them different? In this review, we’ll be going over what sets them apart from each other, as well as breaking each category down individually to help you make the right purchase.
Utillian 722 vs Crafty+ Key Features
The Crafty+ utilizes a hybrid heating system in a new ceramic-coated oven, while the Utillian 722 uses more of a convection-based heating system with a stainless steel oven. They each have a straw-style mouthpiece that helps them have some of the best airflows for a portable vaporizer. Let’s take a deeper look at how they stack up head to head!

Utillian 722 5 Pre-Set Temperatures
Beginning with the Utillian 722, it uses a convection heating system that brings in air through intake holes on the bottom of the vape up past a heating element, and then up through its 0.3-gram oven. Five preset temperatures will be indicated by the two lights on the top of the vape, and these will give you a range of 180C°-210C°, with the boosted mode being the highest at 225C°.
Crafty Plus Phone App Control
For the Crafty+, There is technically only one temperature that you can set via a web or phone app. Out of the box, this standard temperature will be 180°C / 356°F, which is a good temperature for beginners, but will be quite low for veterans looking for a bigger cloud. There are two temperature boosts you can activate by double or triple tapping the power button which will raise the oven temperature by 15°C or 30°C to either 383F / 195C or 410F/ 210C out-of-the-box temperatures. On the App, you’ll be able to adjust your main temperature, along with the boost setting. As a hybrid vaporizer, you’ll get the hot air THC extraction the same as the 722, as well as conduction as the ceramic bowl gets quite hot throughout a session. This means faster extraction of your dry herb, but also means it will cook while not in use which will lead to some wasted product. As Apple has banned the application, most people will find that the Utillian 722 is easier to use out of the box.
Utillian 722 vs Crafty Plus Portability
Side-by-side, each vaporizer is almost the same height and weight. The Utillian 722 seems a bit more durable in the hand due to the rubberized metallic shell compared to the hard plastic exterior of the Crafty+, while the Crafty uses a grooved design that is easy to grab onto. Overall, they both have extremely portable designs. While the Crafty+ has both a liquid concentrate pad and a crafty dosing capsule, the Utillian 722 only has access to the XMAX V3 Pro Wax Cup for concentrates and XMAX V3 Pro Dosing Capsules for dry herb.
Crafty + Accessories
Overall, the Crafty Plus Vaporizer has a lot more accessories out of the box that will allow you more customization. Swappable mouthpieces like the Crafty Short Bubbler can easily be screwed on in place of the normal mouthpiece for an easy bong-like experience while you’re out on the go. To make this happen on the go, it’ll be a good idea to grab a vape carrying case with multiple compartments so that you can bring all of your goodies with you easily.
Utillian 722 Accessories
For the 722, the go-to accessory for most people will be the globe whip bubbler which can easily be placed over the top of the straw-style mouthpiece for an easy bubbler cooled session by hitting the trumpet mouthpiece included in the kit. Other than that, there isn’t too much room for session customization.
Utillian 722 Vapor Quality
For vapor quality, they perform quite similarly which makes sense as they have almost the same design as one another. The vapor is going to be very smooth with little not draw resistance, especially since a straw-style mouthpiece is very comfortable to inhale from. The 722 gets a slight advantage because it will produce bigger clouds from smaller inhales.
Crafty+ Vapor Quality
The Crafty+ performs overall very well but will run out of vapor extraction much earlier than the 722, leading to very light AVB (already vaped bud) which might feel wasteful. It works best with very long and slow inhales.
Battery Life Comparison
For battery life, the 722 vaporizer is the clear winner. As the Crafty+ only uses one battery unlike the Mighty+, the lithium-ion battery will only last you around 45 minutes of use time. This is also cut slightly shorter because of the two-minute auto-shutoff timer during sessions which is super annoying. For the 722, you’ll be able to get an hour of battery life from the 2300mAh proprietary battery. It’s still not the best in the portable vaporizers category but given the price point is a good bang for your buck.
Ease of Use Comparison
To use the Utillian 722, you’ll first start by removing the magnetic mouthpiece and then loading up to 0.3g of your favorite cannabis strain into the stainless steel oven. The one-button and color pre-set temperature display is so easy to use that our YouTube host brags that even his fish would be able to use the 722!
The Crafty+ lights display – it’s a terrible system and is hard to get the hang of because of all the flashing lights. The heat-up time can feel like it’s taking forever, and the rapidly flashing lights when you activate a boosted temperature are overall quite annoying to deal with. For this category, the 722 is the clear winner due to the steep learning curve you’ll need to get the hang of the blue, green, and red lights and what they mean.
The 722 Vaporizer is easier to clean
For the Utillian 722, you can remove the mouthpiece’s O-Ring and filter to give the filter a wipe down with some cotton cleaning wipes which come with isopropyl alcohol that can get rid of any resin. For the straw mouthpiece, an iso Q-Tip will be enough to plunge and remove any resin buildup. Overall, it’s a much easier process than having to take apart the seven different parts on the Crafty!
Crafty+ Mouthpiece Cons
For ease of maintenance on these Vaporizers, the Crafty+ is the definite loser. The mouthpiece comes with seven parts: Three O-rings, the mouthpiece lock, two interlocking parts, and the straw. It’s ridiculous and if you’re a heavy user, an isopropyl soak won’t be enough as the resin will be caked on and need meticulous scrubbing between all of the nooks and crannies of the vape’s mouthpiece and grooved body design. As the process is so annoying, most people will end up buying a few spare Crafty+ Cooling Units to just clean them all at once to save time and energy.
Warranty
Each vape will have a one-year standard warranty, with the Crafty Plus being extendable for another year upon registration. If something does go wrong, you’re better off with the Utillian Vaporizer as Storz & Bickel can be very hard to get a hold of to complete the warranty.
Conclusion
In conclusion, in a head-to-head matchup, the Utillian 722 is the better choice.
It’s super easy to use, comes in an all-black and discreet design, and comes in at almost $100 cheaper than the Crafty+. While you won’t have dry herb dosing capsules, you’ll be able to use the XMAX V3 Pro Wax Cup for use with dabs, and for cleaning after flower in the stainless steel chamber, it’s effortless. For a vaporizer the same cost as the Crafty+ that is dosing capsule compatible, and even comes with 15 in the kit, be sure to check out the Zeus Arc GTS Hub.
