The manufacturer, Storz & Bickel, began their journey into vaporizers with the release of the Volcano Classic all the way back in the year 2000. In 2014, they changed the game once again with the release of the OG Mighty, which completely revolutionized how people view a Weed Vaporizer.

In this Mighty Plus Review, we’ll try to answer two questions: Does it rank as one of the Best Portable Dry Herb Vaporizers? And, is it worth upgrading from the original?

What are the differences between the old and new Mighty?

The most important upgrade is the new USB-C charging, replacing the outdated DC charging port on the original Mighty.

The dual lithium-ion batteries have also been modernized to now feature a sixty-second heat-up time, coming down from ninety.

Although the charge time for Mighty is three hours, there is the option to bring that down to one hour with a fast wall outlet charger.

The new model also features a ceramic-lined bowl instead of the original’s pure aluminum bowl. This design will help keep it cleaner and reduce scratching.

Lastly, the kickstand has been upgraded with larger feet to be more stable on flat surfaces – This definitely has its flaws though, as we’ll discuss later.

Is it portable?

It now features a plastic design with angled ribs for improved grip while carrying.

Also, there is now a bigger gap for your fingers to rest whilst holding it. This means your hands will have more distance between them from the oven to remain cooler. As another bonus, the new exterior is far more scratch-resistant compared to the Mighty’s.

• It is five inches tall and nearly half a pound though, so unless you have a Vape Case or a bag, it is kind of unreasonable to have in your pocket.

Dosing Capsules do really help the Mighty’s portability though as it will make chamber clearing and reloading much more simply, especially if you like putting a small bit of concentrate on top of your dry herb which would normally make a mess of the chamber.

Discreetness Review

It is definitely not discreet because of its bright screen, blocky size, and bright orange buttons.

Unless you really don’t care what people think or live where it’s fully legalized, you’ll be better off using this in remote locations like camping or simply just at home. For a more discreet vaporizer that functions almost as well, you might consider checking out the Utillian 722.

Excellent Build Quality

This is just my opinion, but the plastic body and mouthpiece feel like a bit of a letdown from Storz and Bickel. For a $400 vaporizer, I’d expect at least a metal body.

This in my opinion would be a huge selling point – Having it look and feel the same way it performs. Instead, we are left with a plastic body that feels cheap in the hand. Everything else about the vape is very high-quality, so why not the exterior?

A common alternative for people that dislike the plastic elements of the Mighty is to go with the Arizer Air MAX instead, as it uses only metal and glass for its vapor path.

Hybrid Heating System

Compared to most other vaporizers on the market that only use a heating element for conduction THC extraction, it also uses hot convection air to run through your chamber.

Breaking down the hybrid system, the new model now uses a conduction heating system for the ceramic bowl piece, and a convection heating lower in the vape to really crank up the THC extraction you’ll be getting.

The convection heating system will only activate vaporization during a hit, resulting in smooth clouds every single time & provide incredibly consistent hits to whatever cannabis strain you’re using. With a precision temperature control ranging between 40C – 210C / 104F – 410F, there will be a right temperature preference for everyone to choose from whether that be flavor or for massive clouds.

Strong Battery Life

Users can expect to get over ninety minutes of life per charge, and this number held up in our own testing at 380° Fahrenheit with full bowls.

It comes with a dual lithium-ion battery pack that forms two columns on each side of the device. With the USB-C charging port upgrade, you’ll be able to charge it on the go with a battery bank, so you won’t have to worry about running out of power.

If you were to upgrade to the USB-C Supercharger accessory, you can also bring the charge time down to less than an hour. As a bonus, the battery has UL certification as an added measure of the electrical system’s quality and safety.

How to use the Mighty+ Vaporizer?

1. On the cooling unit, twist it off counterclockwise and then load the 0.3g chambers with your medium-fine ground dry herb, and then close the unit and then press the power button.
2. The Mighty+ will automatically begin heating to your set temperature with the up and down arrows.
3. After a minute of heating, the unit will vibrate and be ready to hit through the straw-style mouthpiece.
4. As a downside, the two-minute auto-off timer can be a bit annoying, so you’ll have to run a few cycles for a full chamber clear.
5. Users will be able to click the power button twice or three times to raise the temperature by 27° F (15°C) or 54° F (30° C) for 90 seconds. This is a nice touch that lets you close out your session with some extra vapor production

With the one included dosing capsule, you’ll be able to keep your bowl much cleaner and preload multiple dosing capsules for added portability – Most heavy users will end up picking a Mighty 40 dosing capsule pack.

Precision Temperature Control

One of the biggest pros for beginners is its screen.

There’s only an up and down arrow and the temperature is large and easy to see.

You can set it anywhere between 104°F to 410°F (40°C to 210°C) and you’ll be able to see the set temperature and actual temperature as it heats up. This feature is one of the reasons why it suits all levels of smokers.

Vapor Quality Review

The improved heating system has had a size reduction that allows for better airflow through the device. This in turn is the reason why the heat-up time has been reduced to sixty seconds from the previous ninety.

Storz and Bickel accomplished this without reducing any quality of the vapor and cloud production! The conduction and convection heating flow system only activates upon hits and because of this, the hits will always be consistent.

Unlike other cheaper devices on the market, this means the vapor quality will always have the same potency and flavor as your session goes on. It also features slightly larger holes at the bottom for improved air intake. Additionally, the ceramic coating in the chamber eliminates any potential metallic aftertaste during inhalation.

Dabbing Review

With the kit’s inclusion of a Mighty liquid concentrate pad for concentrates or oil, it will work just as well as it does with flower.

• It will take a few warm-up hits as your dab heats up for vapor production to ramp up.

We suggest running your device at the highest temperature so that you can get a good extraction from your dabs. Amongst the different communities, the consensus seems to be that placing a small amount of dab atop a filled dry herb dosing capsule is the way to go. Your dab will melt into your herb and you’ll get a nice roast the longer your session goes on.

Tips and Tricks

• Similar to the older model, it works best on a finely ground herb.
• We’ve found that the temperature works wonders at 380°F / 188°C for a good mixture of taste and cloud production without being too harsh on the throat.
• When closing out sessions, we enjoyed the double-super-boost function to fully clear the chamber without the need for stirring.
• With a Mighty+ Bong Adapter, you’ll be able to get a lot more cooling in combination with a bong. Our favorite combination is to use it with our 14mm globe bubbler for a lot of added cooling and session creativity!

How to clean the Mighty Plus?

Besides the cooling unit, the Mighty+ is overall easy to clean. The upgrade to a ceramic chamber means that it’s much easier to maintain and much less likely to stain brown.

Our critiques

Although you can use the Mighty Pick Tool as a stand by turning it backwards, it is still not the most sturdy as it’s still prone falling backward.  For this reason, we suggest upgrading to the Mighty Plus Stand which comes in a variety of colors.

Compared to the standard two-to-three-hour charge time from the regular USB-C, we feel that a 50-minute fast charger should have been included in the kit. For the price, why exclude it?

With the mouthpiece, we feel that it’s an overcomplicated design. Even for veterans, the whopping seven parts will take time to properly disassemble and then put back together for cleaning. With the Utillian 722,  there is only a screened O-Ring and easily detachable straw which highlights just how flawed the Storz & Bickel vape mouthpiece is in comparison.

Additionally, the Mighty’s gap between the chamber and mouthpiece will collect hard-to-reach dry herb flakes which is a pure nightmare to reach for cleaning. The seven parts are also quite fragile, which leads to high maintenance costs over time!

Another common complaint in the Portable Vaporizer community is that the AVB (Already Vaped Bud) is quite light in color, even though there is no more vapor being produced.

Personally, we have even put some of this light brown bud into the Zeus Arc GT4 vaporizer and had a full session with it!

Mighty Plus vs. Crafty Plus

As an alternative, you might be interested in the Crafty Plus. It’s a smaller and slightly downgraded version that favors more portability.

It’s sacrificed some battery life and has no intuitive screen as the Mighty does. Instead, it relies on one preset temperature that you can boost once or twice. This pre-set is also adjustable from a web or phone application. The Crafty+ lights display does take some getting used to, but if you want the vapor quality of the Mighty and are less of a heavy user, you can’t go wrong with the Crafty Plus.

Our Review Conclusion

The Mighty+ Vaporizer is a great choice for high-frequency users that enjoy consistently solid vapor quality.

Storz and Bickel have built on the original model’s strengths in the portable vaporizer category while also addressing its weaknesses. If you’re looking for a long-lasting upgrade, the new model is a great choice, despite the flaws we’ve mentioned. The USB-C charging port, sixty-second heat-up time, and ceramic coating are all excellent features. Overall, it provides best-in-class THC extraction and a wide range of accessories to customize your sessions.

I’ve been a fan since its release and definitely place it in the top two portable dry herb vapes alongside the AirVape Legacy Pro. After extensive testing for this Mighty Plus review places testing, I’ve found my personal favorite setup to be using a dosing capsule and the Mighty Short Bubbler, as they combine to really reduce the amount of maintenance you need to do, as well as the bubbler adding some fun and vapor cooling.
