Is the Linx Apollo worth it?

Linx Vaporizers is back at it again, Daniel. And this time with a combination of an electric dab rig and an E-Nail.

This thing is beefy but portable, and my first impression picking it up is it’s made to slap hard and consistently like the Seinfeld theme song.

With decent battery life and a unique vape bubbler included in the kit, let’s see if the Linx Apollo puts us on the moon or not.

Powerful Quartz Dish

Four pre-set temperatures can be identified with color codes on the Apollo of blue, green, yellow, and red.

These will translate from low, all the way to high for the cloud chasers in the room.

While the coil is heating, it glows bright orange and sounds like a washing machine, and the power button lights will also rotate. Just note that when you’re using the bubbler, definitely use the manual heating mode as it’ll be easier than stopping the session mode’s 30 seconds.

Now, as we’ve mentioned, there are two ways to use the Apollo.

  • As a normal E-Rig, you’ll be using the bubbler over the atomizer’s O-Rings. For this function, you’ll want to have the coil pre-loaded with a rice-sized grain of dab. You’ll want to have your bubbler prefilled 1/3rd of the way full which you can seal by inhaling as the water is falling out the bottom.
  • As an E-Nail, the Apollo’s silicone down adapter will work in 14mm and 18mm female. For this, you’ll want to have the carb cap lid over the atomizer and have the bong adapter placed into the bottom of the vape. Again, you’ll be better off with a cold load since the O-Rings are quite strong for the base attachment. Also, we can recommend that you stick with a solid base like on the 14mm Mega Globe Bubbler.

Smoky Vapor Quality

Although the small dish and internal coil won’t be as powerful as a dab placed onto an exposed coil, the Apollo runs surprisingly hot. In this sense, it works similarly to the Focus V Carta 2 where it can milk smaller amounts of dabs for longer than other, harsher E-Rigs or dab pens.

Now, I have two complaints here, and that’s that the dish is quite small and that the temperatures are way too high for the average dabber.

My concentrate’s vapor almost instantly turned yellow and I had to rush to take a hit – And that was at the lowest temperature. I had another guy in the office try it out at home and he stated the same thing, that he thought the temperatures are overtuned. In this case, I think that the vapor quality is best for very heavy dabbers that prefer almost no taste, but instead, massive clouds.

I will say that I did enjoy using it in the e-nail format with a whip bubbler as it was a lot of fun to dab with a hookah-like setup.

As another small tip, try to only use the manual heating mode, as thirty seconds of session mode will certainly combust your material.

Portability

Overall the unit is super not portable, but, it does make up some ground because of how awesome the portable carrying case is. Everything has a nice spot carved out into the foam and it has a hard exterior shell which I feel would be able to keep everything from breaking if you drop it. For overall portability, I’m going to give the nod to the Focus V Carta 2 though, as it comes with a stylish satchel and bubbler cap, which means you’ll be able to bring it anywhere.

A nice feature is that the O-Rings on the base are very secure, so you can be sure that the carb cab with tether or bubbler attachment is very secure in place.

Battery Life

The battery life on the Apollo is overall pretty average for an E-Rig, coming in at 2600mAh with a proprietary battery charged via a Micro-USB port. A full charge lasted me about 10 sessions, but keep in mind I was running it at the lowest temperature.

One thing that I agree with TVape’s Linx Apollo Review on is that I also wish there was USB-C charging. I feel like everything on this vaporizer was thoughtfully made and of high quality, so why not the charging port as well? Overall, the 2-2.5 hour charge time isn’t the worst, but USB-C or wireless charging definitely would have sped that up.

Here is some battery display information that you should know about:

  • When the Apollo is one, each of the four light quadrants will represent your battery % level
  • When the Apollo needs a charge, the quadrants will flash white five times
  • If you want to get the max battery life, Linx recommends using smaller amounts of dabs in the dish

Impressive Build Quality

The Apollo is super solid and in line with the rest of the Linx lineup by only using premium materials, and it definitely shows. My favorite part is the WPA which is stainless steel with silicone covering. That part alone would probably cost over $50 alone if it was from any other vaporizer brand.

I do have to agree with some of the community feedback though, as when I was using it with our 14mm Globe Whip Bubbler, I noticed that there was some resin starting to form around the 510 atomizer connection. Another small thing I would have changed is to make the air hole a bit easier to plug while using it with the bubbler, as using my thumb was a bit hit-or-miss and hard to control while taking hits at the same time.

Some users have had problems with this connection getting gunked up

Overall, I’m still very impressed though, and would like to a see newer versions of the Apollo with dialed-back temperatures and USB-C charging!

Linx Apollo Vs. Gpen Connect

The closest thing on the market to the Linx Apollo is the G Pen Connect as they both can be used as a normal dab pen and e-nail dab rig. With the Connect, the design is more modular with different parts being able to come apart. Instead of a quartz dish, it used a ceramic wax atomizer tank which is easier to load than the quartz dish.

While it does have a smaller battery life, it’s a bit easier to manage since you don’t have to swap between a bubbler or WPA like you do on the Apollo. They work quite similarly and can offer very consistent sessions for electric nail enthusiasts.

How to use the Linx Apollo

Overall, the Apollo is simple to use. Choose your setup, load the dish, and then rip away. It uses one button commands that most other E-Rigs on the market use today:

  • 5 taps will turn it on, 3 will cycle between temperatures, one press will begin a 30-second heating cycle, and holding the power button will be for manual heating

Knowing what I know now, I would try to pulse the temperature better to keep it from overheating on long presses or sesh mode, and as well use smaller dabs only because the Apollo performed much better that way.

How to clean the Linx Apollo?

The main thing to worry about is the two air holes on the bottom of the base. Over time these will become clogged and can affect performance, so make sure that you’re using the included bristle brush occasionally to keep this clear. The dish and carb cab can also be given a quick wipe down when you start to notice yellowing.

For the bubbler, a quick soak in some Orange Chronic will remove any stains, and for the dish, simply try to use a vape cleaning stick after every session to keep it working its best.

how to clean the linx apollo

Pros

  • Unique Quartz dish
  • Pumps out clouds
  • Clean airpath
  • High-Quality Materials Only
  • Good Vape Carrying Case

Cons

  • Bulky Design
  • Airflow control when using the Bubbler mode could be Improved
  • Micro-USB Charging
  • Runs very hot

Who’s it for?

I’d recommend the Apollo to anyone who likes the style of traditional dab rigs but wants to move into an electric-style device. As it will be compatible with most 14mm and 18mm glass pieces, it’s super satisfying hitting it out a nice glass piece and that was my preferred style over the bubbler.

Who’s it not for?

The Apollo is not for anyone that prefers a simple vape pen-style design. You can’t fit it into a pocket, and even carrying it around the house can be stressful just thinking about dropping it. As an alternative, I can suggest the Utillian 5 with the Utillian 5 Glass Bubbler as a more portable option. While it uses live coils and a smaller battery, it can give you bigger clouds in a smaller setup.

Conclusion

In conclusion, if you don’t mind spending more money than the G Pen Connect for better manufacturing quality, then go for it.

While you won’t get the same best-in-class vapor quality as the Carta 2 or Core 2.1 E-Rig, the Apollo hits a nice middle ground for people that miss using bongs with their dabs. While there is a bit of a learning curve to get used to it, I’d say it’s a must-buy for glass enthusiasts that like super harsh tokes.
