The New Puffco Proxy is the latest version of the popular Proxy dab pen. It’s well-known because of its modular design, which works with custom bubblers, not just the one that comes with it. It’s made for people who like to try out different setups and experiment with their dabbing sessions. I’ve spent a few weeks testing it, and it feels solid and well-built.

In this review, I’ll share my personal experience with the New Puffco Proxy Vaporizer, looking at its design, performance, and usability. I’ll also go over the good and the not-so-great.

Unboxing & First Impressions

Opening the box, I noticed it felt different from the previous version. Unlike the older Proxy, which came in a carrying case, this one comes in a neat box. Everything inside was well organized: the New Proxy by Puffco, a USB-C charging cable, a dab tool, a pack of q-tips, and a small instruction manual.

The first thing I noticed was the frosted glass mouthpiece, one of the biggest changes from before. It feels stronger and easier to hold. The base has a nice weight, not too heavy, but solid enough to feel premium. Even before turning it on, the device already feels high-quality in your hand.

Sherlock-pipe Inspired Design & Overall Feel

The Proxy has a Sherlock-pipe-inspired design, mixing classic style with modern tech. It’s comfortable to hold, and the frosted glass gives a good grip, even during long sessions.

The base houses the 3D ceramic chamber and battery. It’s compact but sturdy, and the new joystick carb cap is easy and responsive. Everything about the design shows care. The device rests well on a table, the mouthpiece stays upright, and the modular design makes swapping between different compatible bubblers simple. It looks good and works well.

Now, the stock glass is just the start. You can swap it out for Puffco’s own pieces like the Wizard, the Terra, or the Bub, which adds water filtration. The New Proxy comes in two colors: Black Onyx and Light Blue Haze, giving users a choice to match their style.

3D Ceramic Chamber

On top of that, the chamber is easy to clean, which makes daily use simple.

Flavor, Vapor Quality, & Performance

The New Proxy wax pen really shines when it comes to vapor quality. From the first hit, the New Proxy delivers smooth, flavorful vapor. I usually load a dab about the size of a grain of rice, and the hits always taste clean. Even at higher temperatures, the vapor isn’t harsh, and the flavor stays consistent.

I found that small to medium dabs work best, but the chamber can handle bigger hits surprisingly well. On busy evenings, I loved how the device heats in about 15 seconds and gives vibration feedback when ready. Using a bubbler attachment cooled the vapor perfectly without sacrificing taste.

Airflow feels balanced, slightly tighter than the Peak Pro 3DXL, but smoother than the Pivot, giving me control over every hit. Whether I’m at my desk or traveling, the Proxy makes dabbing convenient without losing quality.

Temperature Control & Smart Features

Temperature control is where the New Proxy stands out. It has four preset levels:

I’ve tried a lot of app-connected devices, but Puffco’s app is the smoothest. It connects quickly, stays stable, and works without glitches. Once you set your custom presets, they’re saved to the device itself, so you don’t need the app every time.

The Proxy even lets you share your “stats” with friends, though it feels more like a fun feature than a fitness tracker. Feedback comes through vibration and the LED light strip. The strip stays invisible when the device is off, but lights up when it powers on, giving it an almost “alive” feel. You can customize the colors and patterns, and each color can match a specific heat setting for easy use.

Battery Life & Charging

The battery on the New Proxy wax vaporizer is solid for casual or moderate use. I got about 15–20 sessions per charge, enough for a full evening or several short sessions. With a 22% bigger battery and better power management, you get more dabbing with fewer interruptions.

Charging is easy with USB-C, and you can even use the device while it charges. The auto shut-off after 30 seconds of inactivity helps save power.

Heavy users might wish for a bigger battery, but fast USB-C charging makes up for it. The battery is better than the older version, though still a bit small, and the chamber is deeper but compact. These are trade-offs you’d expect from a portable, pocket-friendly design, so they aren’t deal-breakers.

Portability & Size

The New Proxy isn’t pocket-sized but is easy to carry in a bag and works well on a desk. The upright design keeps it stable, so spills are unlikely.

Now, the newer Puffco Proxy Core Kit makes the Proxy more portable and pocket friendly compared to the original glass setup. If you already own a Proxy, you can also get the Core accessory separately to turn your existing setup into the more compact Core Kit style.

The old Proxy came with a carrying case. The new one doesn’t, so you may want a separate case for travel.

A smell proof carrying case is a good idea. It keeps everything organized, reduces odor, and makes travel easier. Overall, it balances portability and performance well.

Build Quality & Engineering

The New Proxy feels solid and well-made. The base is metal with high-quality plastic and a sleek matte finish, while the frosted glass is thick and comfortable to hold. You’ll still want to be careful, as the glass could break if dropped.

The modular design makes it easy to swap accessories. Everything fits snugly and feels precise, showing that Puffco built this to last. Even the small details, like the joystick and LED lights, feel premium. Overall, it’s a device that looks and feels like it belongs in any serious collection.

How to Use the New Puffco Proxy

Step 1: Charge Your Device

Plug into USB-C and charge fully (about 1.5 hours) before first use.

Step 2: Attach the Glass Mouthpiece (Optional)

Choose a glass piece, either the stock frosted glass or a custom bubbler. If using a custom bubbler, you can place the base into it; otherwise, just use the stock glass piece.

Step 3: Load Your Concentrate

Use the hot knife to add a small dab, about the size of a grain of rice, into the 3D ceramic chamber.

Step 4: Power On and Select Temperature

Click the button to turn on. Cycle through the four presets: Blue, Green, Red, White. Pick your preference.

Step 5: Start Heating

Double-click to heat. The lights glow and it vibrates when ready. It takes about 15 seconds. 

Step 6: Take Your Hit

Inhale slowly. Move the joystick to spread air around the chamber. Hold the button for 3 seconds to activate Boost Mode for bigger clouds.

Step 7: End the Session

It shuts off automatically after 30 seconds of no use. Or turn it off manually.

Step 8: Optional App Control

Use the Puffco app to adjust temperature, session length, LED colors, and see chamber temperature in real time.

How to Clean the New Puffco Proxy

Step 1: Let the Device Cool

Always allow the chamber and glass to cool completely before cleaning. Hot ceramic or glass can crack if exposed to cleaning liquids.

Step 2: Remove the Glass Mouthpiece

Gently detach the glass from the base. For water attachments, empty any water and rinse with warm water.

Step 3: Clean the Chamber

Use a ISO cleaning stick or cotton swab dipped in isopropyl alcohol. Gently wipe the inside of the 3D ceramic chamber to remove any residue. Rotate the swab to reach all sides of the chamber.

Step 4: Clean the Glass Piece

For the mouthpiece or bubbler, soak in warm water or isopropyl alcohol for 15–30 minutes. Rinse thoroughly with warm water and let it dry completely before reattaching.

Step 5: Clean the Base Exterior

Wipe down the base and joystick area with a dry or lightly damp cloth. Avoid getting any liquid near the electronics.

Step 6: Reassemble the Device

Once everything is dry, reattach the glass to the base. Make sure it’s securely fitted, then you’re ready for your next session.

Step 7: Regular Maintenance Tips

• Clean the chamber after every 5–10 sessions to maintain flavor.
• Soak glass pieces weekly if used heavily.

Comparison With Puffco Pivot and Peak Pro 3DXL

Verdict

If being able to customize your concentrate vaporizer is a big deal, you’ll love the Puffco Proxy. It’s perfect for casual users and seasoned enthusiasts alike, offering simple use, precise temperature control, and the ability to tailor your setup.

Where I do disagree with Puffco is their claim that the Proxy lowers the barrier of entry for vaporizing concentrates thanks to its pipe-shaped design. It’s not exactly an entry-level option. That said, it still delivers solid performance, and a certain niche of dabbers will really appreciate it. Its quality and versatility have earned it a spot on our list of the Best Wax Pen.
