The two most popular wax pens, the Utillian 5, and the Yocan Evolve Plus XL are by far the highest quality wax pens for sale in Canada. In this review, we’ll be looking at what sets them apart from the competition, as well as coil and vapor quality differences between them.
After looking at the key features, we’ll be deciding which device is better for vapers based on unique preferences. So, let’s get into the Utillian 5 vs Yocan Evolve Plus XL Review.
Contents
Ease of Use
The Evolve Plus XL only has one temperature setting and other than the threaded compartments is very natural and easy to use. Both wax pens use a one-button style of operation and will produce quite a lot of vapor for their portable designs. The Evolve XL has slightly fewer customization options though as there is only one heat setting compared to the Utillian’s four voltage settings. As well, since the coils and chamber are bigger on the Utillian, loading is slightly easier on the 5. Although the coils on the XL are smaller, both pens are easy to pre-load before heating and inhaling for a beginner-friendly style.
Temperature Controls
The Yocan Evolve Plus XL uses only one temperature setting. Although this can be seen as a drawback, it is generally on the hotter side and can be played around with by pulsing the power button during a session to prevent burning on smaller doses. If you are using a quality wax pen though, vapor quality probably isn’t as important as production though. The Utillian 5’s four voltage setting do make smaller sessions better on low heat better with the canthal coils though. Overall, either vape’s heat settings won’t be a deal-breaker to vaping connoisseurs.
Review: Utillian 5 vs Yocan Evolve Plus XL Vapor Quality
The Yocan’s quad quartz atomizer is an upgrade over the common dual quartz atomizers for affordable wax pens, and really packs a punch for being so cheap itself. The vapor quality won’t be the best, but the clouds you’ll get will be impressive. With the lower temperature settings and canthal coil, you’ll be able to get a lot of vapor production from smaller sessions with the Utillian 5 and with the higher settings, you’ll get a huge cloud on the 4th voltage setting and titanium coils that will rival an E-Rig.
Manufacturing Quality
Both exteriors use a metallic design that feels extremely durable but there are a few differences that separate the two from each other, as the Utillian 5 is much easier to load due to its larger coils and non-threaded design. There are some unique differences that set these two wax pen kings apart from each other though including the Yocan’s innovative atomizer cap. This allows for splatter prevention and spread the induction heat evenly throughout your wax. One downside of all of the threaded compartments however, is that they are prone to getting gummed up with resin, making the device more difficult to use unless you are on top of your cleaning.
In terms of general convenience, the magnetized parts of the Utillian are overall easier to use and clean in the long run. although there is not an atomizer splash cap, the mouth piece is designed to prevent any hot wax from getting up. For the Plus XL, a great feature is the adjustable air-flow dial though. Although the Utillian 5 does not have adjustable airflow, it does come with four voltage settings to choose from: 2.2, 2.4, 2.6, 2.8V. In terms of upgradable qualities, the Utillian 5 is the clear winner due to the coil choices. The Utillian 5 Glass Bubbler is also a very unique accessory. It will let you hit higher temperatures while removing some of the heat and giving a nice flavor boost. Casuals will also love the smoothness of hits at lower temperatures as well.
Review Utillian 5 vs Yocan Plus XL Portability
These two wax pens are very similar in size and users will have no troubles getting them into their pockets. Despite being a little bigger, the Utillian 5’s chamber / coil size increase is much easier to load on the go, made even easier with the pop-off cap. For the Yocan, there is a bonus feature of an airtight rubber storage container on the bottom of the pen that you can easily use to store some sessions on the go with. You’ll still need to the loading tool with you, but this is a very handy feature that boosts its portability.
The Utillian 5 comes equipped with a 1050mAh battery that will last a good day of use, with casual users getting into a week’s use of life. The Yocan has been upgraded from its previous model to now have a 1400mAh battery. The result is about two days of use for an average user, or two weeks for a casual user.
Utillian 5 vs Yocan Evolve Plus XL Review Conclusion
Overall, these are two kings of the wax pen category. For battery life and easy sessions on the go, the Yocan Evolve Plus XL will be the better choice – And for vapor quality and sessions customization, the Utillian 5 is the winner.
The overall threadless design of the Utillian 5 does feel better to use overall, and the black ceramic and canthal coils, bubbler, and four voltage settings make it a great overall choice for a wax pen. You’ll have to worry less about its larger coils or about any threads getting gummed up. However, the Plus XL is the much more affordable wax pen and basically packs the same punch as the Utillian 5 besides a few small upgrades that only vaping connoisseurs will truly notice and be able to customize with.

The XL Plus has become a worthless piece of junk. Button lasts a month or two. Cheap Chinese crap. Not like when they first came out. Quality has taken a nosedive.
