How to use the Utillian 8?
The Utillian 8 is pretty straightforward when it comes to the user interface.
Once you’ve filled the bubbler just above the air holes and loaded the carb cap with some dab, let’s look at what the one-minute sessions looks like:
- Press and hold the power button for four seconds to begin the 20-second heat-up time
- The light will turn solid green for 20 seconds once it has reached temperature before a 20-second cooldown and auto-shutoff
Utillian 8 Vapor Quality
- The vapor quality is amazing and has a wide enough temperature range to be comparable with the Dr. Dabber Switch 2.
The minimum temperature, 400°F, on the other hand, is going to be an excellent temperature for beginners and for live resins because of its slower extraction style with smaller rice-sized dabs. While the maximum temperature of 800°F is much too high for most users, some people do like coughing their lungs out, and to those people, a salute.
How to use the Utillian 8 Carb Cap
With the integrated dab tool, you’ll never have to worry about dealing with your sticky concentrates as well, meaning a session on the go is as easy as scooping the carb cap into a dab container and then placing it back onto the Utillian 8.
The carb cap has two small holes which you can cover to adjust your airflow, which is a nice touch!
For dabbing veterans, you’ll be able to loosen the carb cap or wiggle it around. This will get your terp pearls spinning and help your dab extraction, as it will minimize the amount of bubbling and pooling of your concentrate.
When you combine this method with the 3D heated coil, meaning embedded coil throughout your chamber, you’re going to have no cold spots or burning that cheaper models otherwise would have.
What concentrates are best for the Utillian 8?
For high-grade concentrates like live resin and rosin, I highly suggest sticking to the lower temperatures so that you can get all of the terpenes and great taste without burning anything. These concentrates also have a higher chance of chazzing your chamber because of how quickly they will cook at higher temperatures.
With shatter and wax vaping, in my opinion, they’ll be better suited for the third and fourth pre-set temperatures because the flavor isn’t as important on them. You’ll be able to get massive clouds at these higher temperatures, and I might suggest even using hot water in the bubbler to help add some humidity to your hits.
Ceramic 3D Atomizer
The Utillian 8 uses a large 3D BurstHit Ceramic Atomizer that will help to fully extract any kind of THC concentrate that you put in the chamber.
As a 3D atomizer, its coils are embedded throughout the ceramic which means the heating will be distributed much more evenly than other cheaper atomizers which only have coils on the bottom. The result is that the Utillian 8 won’t have any hot or cold spots. For reference, the Puffco Peak Pro 3D atomizer upgrade is over $100, so there’s a lot of value to having a stock 3D atomizer.
Built with portability in mind
Some nice features help with the portability of the Utillian 8.
These features include a magnetic sleeve, included hard vape case, and an integrated dab tool.
Beginning with the vape sleeve is a combination of hard plastic and felt, which you can place on the base of the E-Rig. It secures itself magnetically and adds a layer of protection against scratches and drops. Utillian also plans on releasing different colors of the skin so that you’ll be able to customize how your U8 looks.
With the included hard vape carry case, it’s amazing because it will let you house your E-Rig, its accessories, and any kind of THC concentrates that you may want to bring with yourself on the go. Device protection and everything you need in a smell-proof case? That’s a yes from me, dog.
15 Session Battery Life
Although a full session from start to end will last a minute, you’ll still be able to get over 15 heating cycles. 3150mAh is a very impressive spec amongst the best E-Rigs, and the USB-C charging port can have the U8 back to a full charge in just over an hour.
A comparison to make here is the Carta 2, where we’ve had some heavy users complain about the limited battery life of 6-10 sessions because of its fancy HD screen and app integration.
With the Utillian 8’s minimalist design, you won’t be able to customize as many sessions or change a screensaver, but the performance is just as good thanks to the high-quality 3D atomizer. On a side note, if you are looking for crazy features on your E-Rig, you can read our Focus V Carta 2 Review to learn more about it.
Utillian 8 Build Quality Review
I think with more time, this will become an E-Rig that is very popular for people quitting traditional dab rigs with torches because of its lung-busting performance, minimalist design, and ability to play with the carb cap.
I don’t see any part easily breaking or wearing down, and when your sleeve does wear down with time, you’ll simply be able to swap a new one in, while everything else about your E-Rig will look brand new.
Puffco Peak Pro vs Utillian 8
I would say two devices that are super comparable to the Utillian 8 would be the Puffco Peak and the New Puffco Peak Pro – Specifically because of the price difference between the two brands. Especially with the Peak Pro, which comes in at $510 compared to the $300 of the Utillian 8.
Some people have complained of the short session timer on the Utillian 8, but I was able to consistently clear rice-sized dabs at the lower temperatures, especially since you can still hit it as it cools down.
They both have similar atomizer styles, boxes, and four pre-set temperatures. There are two big differences between them to think about though.
- The Peak Pro has an app
The Puffco App makes the user experience super easy, as you can control the temperatures and heat with a few buttons. Even though the U8 has a bigger temperature range, the ability to precisely control the temperature is a huge plus, as well as having wireless charging which can be enabled for on-demand heating on the app.
2. The Utillian 8 has the better atomizer
Out of the box, while each atomizer might be 13mm and ceramic, the 3D embedded coil of the U8 is ultimately going to have it performing much better than the Peak Pro. While there is an upgrade to a 3D chamber for the Peak Pro, it will run you $110 for the part, which will only ultimately last a few months. So, not only are you getting better stock performance, but for basically half the price.
- June 2023 update – Puffco has announced the New Peak Pros will have a stock 3D atomizer
Utillian 8 Tips and Tricks
One of the things I am still hunting for is a way to put an additional bubbler overtop of the bubbler’s mouthpiece for a bit of fun. So far, I haven’t quite found a match, as the opening is slightly bigger than 18mm. I haven’t found anything nifty yet but I do have a few small tips for the Utillian 8:
- Make sure that the bubbler’s air hole is aligned with the atomizer
- Dabbing veterans can hot load the atomizer for a better experience
- Unless you’re experienced, stick to the lower voltages
- Throttle the carb cab during sessions
How to clean the Utillian 8?
One of the best ways to keep the Utillian 8 clean is to use a dry Q-Tip a few minutes after each session to remove residue. For the Utillian 8 Bubbler, you’ll be able to clean it with a quick shake of Orange Chronic Glass Cleaner.
Something to keep in mind is that the atomizer threading is going to slowly collect resin because of its design. Occasionally, you’ll want to clean the threading with a wipe along with the bottom of the atomizer connection. Don’t neglect this cleaning, as the worse the buildup gets, the harder it will be to remove.
- If you get any burnt spots on your atomizer, you can soak it in isopropyl alcohol for 20 minutes at a time before gently scraping with your dab tool.
Pros
- Ergonomic and aesthetic design
- Affordable high-quality parts
- Easy to load carb cap
- Even concentrate extraction
Cons
- It would have been better with more pre-set temperatures
- Some people might not like the bubbler mouthpiece style
- Atomizer gets extremely hot from back-to-back sessions
Who’s the Utillian 8 best for?
The Utillian 8 has some of the best vapor quality on the market and doesn’t have any fancy bells or whistles to mess around with.
It’s a straightforward rig with a minimalist design that has awesome specs and features for its price point. If you don’t need any smartphone app, wireless charging, or anything like that on your premium E-Rig, the Utillian 8 will be a great buy.
Final Thoughts
To summarize the Utillian 8 in one word, I would say ‘consistency’. The three 20-second stages of a session (heating, heated, cooling) were super easy to follow along with, and thanks to the even extraction from the carb cap and ruby terp pearls, I’ve yet to have a bad session in my abundance of testing the device.
In other words, the Utillian 8 is a great pickup for anyone looking for a premium Cannabis Vaporizer.
It’s simple enough to guide beginners through its sessions, but allows for enough play to keep dabbing connoisseurs happy!

Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the best Utillian 8 Temperature?
As a dabbing lightweight, I preferred sticking to the lowest temperature where I was able to get a lot of flavor, as well as some decent-sized foggy vapor from my live resin. Most people will prefer the second or third pre-set temperature.
Just a heads up that if you have back-to-back sessions immediately, the temperature will continue to climb leading to a very harsh hit! We advise letting the atomizer cool down in between hits!
Can it clear the bowl in one heating cycle?
For bigger dabs, you can load in globs and seriously create pure white vapor going through the bubbler. For larger dabs at lower temperatures, you might have to do two heating cycles for a full clearing of the bowl.
How long do Utillian 8 coils last?
The coils last on average 3 months of heavy use before needing a replacement.
How long does the Utillian 8 last?
The Utillian 8’s warranty lasts one year. It just came out in February 2023, so there is no known information about longevity yet.
Can you use flower in the Utillian 8?
No, the Utillian 8 is for waxy concentrates only.
Can you hot load the Utillian 8?
If you are loading your Utillian 8 dab tool, then your dab will slowly melt onto the atomizer as it pre-heats. If you do want to hot-load, you can do so on the highest temperature of the Utillian 8.
Thanks for the thorough review. I contacted Utillian to ask about cleaning in more detail and was told NOT to soak the atomizer in alcohol. They said that the ceramic is pours and soaking can damage it. Also, in the manual, it says that the life span of the atomizer is just 1 to 3 months. At $60 for a replacement that means annual operating costs could be $240 to $720 a year. That’s not practical. This thing has great promise and I can see a lot of thoughtful engineering but a $60 replacement atomizer is a deal breaker for me.
Thanks for the insight! We’ve had our sample for about 3 months now and the original atomizer is still going strong. I’ve seen some other comments about not soaking ceramic but I think I’ll continue to do so. Technically it should only be a last ditch effort to get rid of burnt marks anyways.
