How to use the Dr. Dabber Switch?

The Dr. Dabber Switch comes with a bit of a learning curve, especially because the unit is the first-ever induction cup E-Rig.

Loading the bowl with an induction cup

The good news is that the unit comes with a very comprehensive user’s manual and pamphlets for each mode, meaning you won’t have to spend any time searching how-to videos on YouTube. The switch at the bottom of the device is what lets you ‘switch’ from either dry herbs or concentrates.

With the bubbler, you can fill it up as high as you’d like, or choose not to fill it all, just make sure that it’s secure when you put it back on.

How to use the Switch in oil mode?

  1. Turn the power to the concentrate setting as indicated by the oil drop
  2. Set your temperature as indicated by the colors on the five LEDs (We suggest Purple for beginners)
  3. Drop an oil cup into the chamber after loading a small amount of product
  4. Press the Dr. Dabber logo to begin the heating process
  5. Play around with the carb cap air hole and mixer until your session is complete
  6. If you’re big on cleaning, use a Vape Cleaning Stick on the cup while it’s still hot to remove leftover residue

Crystal Mode

  • With the premium cups, most of them will require you start your Switch in crystal mode, which you can do by holding the plus sign then flipping the switch to oil

How to use the Switch in flower mode?

  1. Turn the power mode onto the flower image
  2. We suggest using more water in the bubbler, as the vapor tends to be hot
  3. Select a temperature from the blue or purple colors
  4. Load a cup to the brim and pack it down firmly for best results
  5. Fire it up and inhale!

Also, the dry herb mode on the Switch leaves a bit to be desired. You use the same induction cups that you’d use for dabbing, which isn’t exactly vaping herb at that point. There’s no combustion so there’s no smoke, but it’s not nearly as pure, smooth, and delicious as you get from the concentrate mode.

25 Pre-Set Temperatures

The Dr. Dabber Switch has an impressive amount of temperature options25 settings to be exact. However, there are only five temperature settings to choose from at a time as we’ll explain.

The good part about that is you can decide exactly what those five temperatures are.

  • We don’t recommend going much higher than about 375C (707°F) for concentrates, or about 220C (428°F) for herbs. Anything higher than those temperatures will result in lung-busting rips and are you’ll be likely to burn your material quickly.

Let’s take a look at the concentrate pre-sets… There are five different colors that will each have 20 Fahrenheit increments, starting out at one purple light at the lowest temperature of 150°C (300°F).

  1. Purple – 300-380°F / 149C-193C  – Best for flavor
  2. Blue – 400-480°F / 205C-249C – Wispy vapor, good flavor
  3. Cyan – 500-580°F – 260C-304C – Decent vapor, will combust flower
  4. Green – 600-680°F – 315C-360C – Massive harsh clouds
  5. Yellow – 700-780°F – 371C-415C – Best for globs

Dr. Dabber Switch Induction Cups Review

As previously mentioned, the Dr. Dabber Switch uses a variety of induction cups in place of an atomizer.

What this means is that the device generates magnetic fields that heat the cups and your dab. This technology removes the need for dangerous dab torch lighters and also removes the need for direct contact with the atomizer like you get with most other dab rigs or eNails.

Because of this direct contact with heat, atomizers on most other rigs need to be replaced every few months, but this is not the case with the Switch. The Switch holds about the same amount of concentrates as other E-Rigs, ranging from a rice sized grain for smaller loads, or a glob for heavy users.

Stock Black and White Ceramic Cups

Out of the box, you’ll have a white and ceramic induction cup. Dr. Dabber suggests using the black for dry herb and the white one for dabs. This is so that you can better see your concentrates melt, as well as see buildups for easier cleaning.

Smooth Ceramic Cup

Offering better heat distribution and easier cleaning than the standard cups, the Dr Dabber Switch Smooth Cup is a general upgrade to the included ceramic cups because it is thicker and will better maintain heat to your concentrates. Just like the stock cups, you’ll be able to torch clean or have the Switch self clean them. If you’re tired of hot or cold spots on your stock cups, this is a small upgrade to consider.

Smooth ceramic cup & quartz cup

Sapphire Induction Cup

The Dr Dabber Switch Sapphire Cup is by far the most popular premium cup offered by Dr. Dabber. It distributes heat amazingly well and can provide the purest terpene profiles that money can buy. This cup will work best with 400-580 degrees Fahrenheit, and may need multiple reheats to fully clear your dab. However, it’s a fan favorite for the amazing flavor it offers.

Quartz Induction Cup

The Dr Dabber Switch Quartz Cup is best suited for low-temperature terpene flavor chasers. With regular cleaning and low temperature, the quartz cup give you super-pure flavors from your dabs or loose flower! For cups like this, your Switch should be set to crystal mode for the best results. The results won’t be as good as the premium cups, but it’s still a nice upgrade if you’re on a budget.

Best Dr. Dabber Switch Induction Cup – SiC Cup

The Dr Dabber Switch SiC Cup heats slowly, but retains heat very well meaning you’ll get a good combination of flavor and cloud production. It’s a bit harder to control, but if you put in the time to learning it between 400-500 degrees Fahrenheit, it can give you some awesome sessions and many people consider it to be the best Switch cup. If you don’t mind long and slow inhales using rice sized dabs, then check out the silicon carbide cup!

ALN Induction Cup

The Dr Dabber Switch ALN Cup (Aluminum-nitride) cup is specifically designed for maximum heat conductivity. With the second-to-none conductivity and heat distribution, this is the best overall cup for flower and concentrates. It’s resistant to high temperatures and oxidation meaning it will be long-lasting as well. It can also be torch cleaned without any problems, and many connoisseurs consider it to have the best flavor.

Dr. Dabber Switch Vapor Quality

The vapor flavor and production from the Dr. Dabber Switch is truly some of the best we’ve ever experienced.

There aren’t many vaporizers on the market today that can beat the vapor quality of the Switch, especially since you’ll have cloud production within five seconds. For heavy users and connoisseurs, definitely consider picking up a premium cup like the sapphire or ALN to get the best flavor possible.

One thing to definitely keep in mind is that the dry herb performance won’t be the best. There is a very fine line temperature and heating time wise between getting only wisps, or completely combusting. If you want to use it mainly as a dry herb vaporizer, you’ll have to spend some time to find your own sweet spot of temperature.

  • Our best results with flower came from a very fine grind and compacting the black cup
  • Our best results with dabs were on the blue setting using long and slow inhales

Dr. Dabber Switch Battery Life Review

The life on the Switch is one of the best on the market today; offering at least 75 rips on a single charge from the proprietary 3000mAh battery. Some users even get up to 150 rips, it really just depends on the size of vape hits you like to take. The Switch has a fast charge-up time, taking only about an hour to fully charge

Dr Dabber Switch Plug Port

The Switch has an auto-shutoff timer feature and pass-through charging as well.

There really aren’t many Cannabis Vaporizers on the market today that have a better battery than the Dr. Dabber Switch. If your battery does expire over time, you can also simply get a replacement from the Dr. Dabber website.

Manufacturing Quality Review

The Switch is hefty due to being made from only high-quality materials. The induction cups are made from titanium and are coated with ceramic – white for concentrates and black for dry herbs, with the rest being sold separately as upgrades.

The lights on the Switch are interesting when it’s ready to be used, and might be a little bit too much for some users. The light show can be turned off though by putting the unit into stealth mode.

  • To cycle between the 25 light mode pre-sets just holding the minus button and pressing the up button to cycle through them

Even though the Dr. Dabber Switch Bubbler and the carb cap are made out of borosilicate glass, some users have reported issues with them breaking easily.

  • The other thing to know is that a common upgrade is the Dr. Dabber Switch Silicone Base, which will help with base stability, and to help you stay organized as well.

Is the Dr. Dabber Switch portable?

The Dr. Dabber Switch Vaporizer is not very portable, nor is it discreet.

However, if you do need to transport the unit from one place to another, the handy carrying case makes things easier, so make sure that you keep the original box, as it will at least allow you to make it somewhat portable for travel.

When you do carry the Switch around, also make sure that you do so slowly, as to not send your carb cab flying off and breaking!

How to clean the Dr. Dabber Switch?

Keeping the Dr. Dabber Switch clean is easy because of its self-cleaning mode that will remove most residue and chazzing from your induction cups.

For the bubbler, we suggest using Orange Chronic Glass Cleaner as it will help get rid of hard water stains almost immediately.

For where the cups sit, and all other parts of the switch, a quick wipe with Vape Cleaning Wipes will be enough to get rid of most grime.

Who’s the Dr. Dabber Switch for?

The Dr. Dabber Switch is a great addition to any daily dab users looking for a quick and easy solution to dabbing.

  • You won’t have to worry about any atomizers wearing out over time, as well as having to clean after every use.

With the cups, you can simply swap them in and out, run burn-off cycles, or simply just clean them all at once in isopropyl alcohol.

You’ll have a wide variety of choices to choose from and a huge temperature setting to find exactly what works for you. Given the huge vapor air path as well, you’ll be able to take bigger hits than from smaller E-Rigs which really will help out medicinal users.

Who’s the Switch not for?

While you may have the option to take the Switch with you, it’s simply not a viable option for most people who dab on the go.

If being budget-friendly is your thing, then the Switch might not be for you as well – The premium cups can run as high as $70, and different carb caps are $30, so a simple dab pen or beginner E-Rig like the XMAX Qomo might be better for those on a budget.

Tips and Tricks

  • With the dry herb chamber, it tends to run a little hotter than what you have set, so for this reason try running it 30 Fahrenheit / 20 Celsius lower than what you’d normally use
  • Upgrade to the Dr. Dabber Switch Sidecar Bubbler for less draw-restriction
  • Use the carb cap! If you are placing a large amount of dab into the cups, you can help the induction by spreading it out as it melts with the carb cap’s tip
  • Use the tweezers! Trust me, you might think the cups have cooled after a few minutes but they haven’t and it’s not fun burning your fingertips!
  • Play around with the settings, cups, and different carb caps! This is part of the fun and learning curve so that you can find what is perfect for your dabbing habits
  • You can use the induction heater without any cups to heat your DynaVap M Plus, give it a try!

Dr Dabber Switch Dynavap Combo

Pros

  • Excellent Battery Life
  • Atomizers Never Expire
  • Tons of Room for Customization
  • Compatible with Dabs and Flower

Cons

  • Large and Bulky
  • Large Learning Curve
  • Pricy

Dr. Dabber Switch Review Conclusion

The Dr. Dabber Switch E-Rig offers premium vapor quality, a brand new induction heating system, flexible temperature options, and fast heating and charging.

It’s not portable or discreet, but the amount of customization you can have on the Switch is very attractive for heavy users that love to play around with their concentrates, especially since the vapor quality is top-notch.

  • A good comparison to the Dr. Dabber Switch is to its smaller counterpart, the Dr. Dabber Boost Evo. The Boost Evo only has six pre-sets but is much easier to use thanks to its snap-on bubbler and smaller design!
  • For the mini version of the Switch with less pre-sets and a much more portable design, be sure to read our Dr. Dabber XS Review!
