Vivant Ambit Review – The little juicebox that can.
A small and powerful little bit of kit, the Vivant Ambit came out at a surprisingly low cast with impressively high power. Promising a full-convection heater built into the tiny unit, we check out how the Vivant Ambit performs in our review!
We liken the Ambit to be a solid entry level vape, however check out our other dry herb vape reviews to help you find the best herb vaporizer out there for you!
How easy is it to use the Vivant Ambit?
While this little device is fairly straightforward to use, there are a few tips and tricks to get it working best. We have those all at the bottom of the page so check those out to learn some tips and tricks on how to use the Vivant Ambit best.
Load up your chamber with your flower and then click the button 5 times to turn the unit on. From there you can change between Fahrenheit and Celsius just by triply clicking the same big button.
To initiate the heating element, just hold down the button for a few seconds and it’ll start warming up. Very quickly it will vibrate, letting you know when it’s time to hit it!
The draw technique is very simple and there isn’t much that can go wrong! Overall it’s a very easy unit and aside from cleaning, there’s no real learning curve to it. Just make sure the mouthpiece is in its fully extended position.
How long does the battery last?
A small unit usually denoted a small battery life, and we’ve actually been quite surprised at how efficient this unit is at using the little bit of juice that’s available.
You get a surprising 1500mAh of power crammed inside, which has been enough for what’s roughly 10 separate 2 minute sessions. Color me impressed!
Unfortunately the Vivant Ambit uses the dated MicroUSB charging standard, however that’s par for the course as far as budget dry herb vapes go. With that being said too, you probably have a dozen MicroUSB chargers laying around waiting to be used, so it’s no big deal really.
Unfortunately too, the battery isn’t removable. This is to be expected as very few very small units use a removable cell. While it’s possible to implement, we’re not upset seeing as how small and affordable this vape is.
Bowl Size & Heating System
Expectedly, the Ambit has a relatively small bowl which houses roughly 0.1-0.15 grams of flower. It makes great use of this amount though and is well efficient! What results is very nice and even cook which doesn’t really require a stir.
Vivant touts it as a full convection vape however we figure it’s really a hybrid – which isn’t a bad thing at all. Powerhouse vapes like the Utillian 722 and Crafty+ both use excellent hybrid heating systems too.
The way it’s implemented on the Ambit is very nice and we don’t feel like it passively cooks much of your flower away either. You get nice convection-like flavor and the terpene profile is especially pleasant at lower temperatures.
The Vivant Ambit definitely has a powerful heating system at its core and the beating heart of this device – without it, the Ambit would be average.
How’s the Vapor Quality?
However, it is very impressive! All things considered, it has the ability to milk up a bubbler like the best and give gently tasty sips. While it lacks an intricate and effective cooling path, we didn’t find the vapor to at all be unpleasant at low-mid temps.
Cranking up the temperature gives you very powerful hits, however the flavor and harshness are impacted negatively. That’s to be expected from a unit this tiny and this is where it really shines.
Put a water pipe adaptor on this thing and watch the magic happen! Sensationally thick rips however be careful – we’ve seen and experienced combustion with this unit at maxed out temperatures. We find 200°C to be more than enough and don’t think Vivant has calibrated the temperature so well – it seems hotter than it is.
All in all, the Vivant Ambit has the ability to completely white-wall a bubbler and choke you out, and on lower settings it’s absolutely pleasant and manageable for direct to mouth use. We highly recommending grabbing a water pipe adaptor with this unit though.
How Portable and Discreet is it?
The little juice box that can! This thing is tiny and seemingly half the volume of one of those juice boxes you’d get packed for school. It fits in most pocket very comfortably, can be palmed and hidden by most people, and hits bigger than it looks.
It does make a noticeable amount of smell so be wary of that when you’re out and about, though you can go out and sneak a quick session pretty easily with this little guy. Put it in a smell-proof case afterwards and then you’re golden.
What accessories come with the Vivant Ambit?
With the price in mind, you get a fairly standard set of accessories. Nothing too special, here’s what’s in the box of the Vivant Ambit:
- The Vivant Ambit itself (duh)
- MicroUSB charging cable
- Quick start manual
- Cleaning brush
- Stir tool
Manufacturer reputation and dependability
Though they’re not giant names in the industry, Vivant has been putting out units for a while, with mixed reception.
While they’ve seen some problems in the past, Vivant with the Ambit has experienced little of the way of defects and warranties. Aside from potential combustion, we couldn’t really pinpoint anything wrong on the unit.
Who is this vaporizer for?
This is a solid device for someone looking for a do-it-all portable vaporizer which is stealthy, small, and able to destroy a bubbler and subsequently your lungs.
If you want something that feels like an improved version of the device, we’d recommend something like the Utillian 620 as it’s our favorite mid-tier portable vape out there with a similar feeling.
All being said and done, the Ambit is a fine little device and you couldn’t go wrong given the price tag. We think the water pipe adapter is a necessity as it really shows when put through water. Nothing says good night like a white-walled bong rip!
The screen is a little annoying to constantly keep clean and the vapor is harsh at high temperatures with that risk of combustion being present, but you get an immensely powerful vape in a very small package regardless.
While it’s good, we figure you might end up upgrading some day in the future and recommend splurging on something a bit more refined, however it’s very good for the price and if you’re on a tight budget, it’s a fine unit to consider.
Tips for best performance from the Vivant Ambit!
Here are some Vivant Ambit tips & tricks we have to share!
- Grind your herb medium-fine, pack it in a little bit, but not too tight to restrict airflow
- Keep the temperature low, ~170°C / 338°F is definitely sufficient for strong hits
- Keep the battery topped off with a power bank since the battery drains rather quickly
- Stir the herb in between sessions to get all you can out of your flower.
